SPECIAL OLYMPICS SLOVAKIA FAMILY FORUM 2022
Inclusion trough sport for children with developmental disabilities
Project: Basketball training enriched by MetLife volunteers
After more than two pandemic years, MetLife employees met again with children from Special Olympics to play sports together. The goal of volunteering is the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities through sports activities.
Volunteers are the most important pillar of sport of children with intellectual disabilities.
New volunteers were given the opportunity to join the children at the Sports Hall Mladost‘ in Bratislava and experienced the amazing energy that these children radiate. „Volunteering is very natural for MetLife, we regularly get involved in various activities. We see it as a unique opportunity to give something back to the community we work and live in. We are very proud to be part of the Special Olympics family, because meeting their young athletes, with intellectual disabilities mutually charges us with incredible energy,“ said Zuzana Žgančíková, Head of the CSR Department at MetLife.
Those two training sessions with volunteers bring much more knowledge not only in basketball skills, but also in knowing each other. It is opportunity for athletes to gained new friends and volunteers got the opportunity to know better children with intellectual disabilities. Bot parties succeeded mentally and physically too.
Volunteers dedicate 50 backpacks full of sports basketball equipment to young athletes between the ages of two and eight.
