Project for regional cooperation financed by Island, Lichtenstein and Norway through EHP and Norway Grants.

During 8.-12. October 2023 in Iceland was held the international conference and transfer of knowledge in project: Inclusion trough sport for children with developmental disabilities – Working together for an inclusive Europe was held in Iceland. The regional cooperation project is financed through the European Economic Area and Norwegian grants.
Special Olympics Slovakia was represented at this conference by Veronika Sedláčková – project manager of the project, Dominika Nestarcová – local partnership coordinator for Outreach, training, and support for families of children with intellectual disabilities and Martina Gogolová – responsible for suitability of the project in the future.
Special Olympics Iceland presented their program, how they care and play sports with intellectually disabled athletes. At the conference, 6 participating states exchanged experiences on how it works and does not work in their countries. We learned a lot and were inspired. The conference also included tours of sports grounds and various facilities. We also participated in basketball training for children with ID, as well as training for seniors. We visited a special school as well as housing for the elderly with intellectual disabilities. Many thanks to Special Olympics Iceland and Special Olympics Europe Eurasia for their hospitality and great organization.
